Katharine
BA

My name is Katharine and I am earning my Master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling at City University of Seattle. The therapy hour is a unique space for you to reflect, let your guard down, explore and benefit from non-judgmental perspective, genuine relational feedback, and attuned attention. Working from an integrative, psychodynamic, client-centered approach, I aim to meet you where you are, encourage you as you reach new levels of self-awareness, and assist you in attending to difficult core issues with honesty, balance, empathy, and creativity. I believe that the practice of compassionately and consciously attending to our own mental and emotional suffering is an avenue for accessing inner wisdom and finding peace in the here and now; the therapeutic alliance can be a vehicle for traveling this path.

I have a background in visual art and apparel design and an open mind that recognizes that healing and insight come in various forms and flavors. My current education is grounding me in practical, evidence-based therapeutic techniques for working with the mental constellations of depression, anxiety, and trauma. As a student and practitioner of Zen Buddhism, I value non-rational modes of knowing as much as rational ones and am able take in many points of view without contradiction. I appreciate the beauty, mystery, deep challenges, and practical struggles of daily life and believe that we work on the world through working on ourselves. I welcome the opportunity to work with you.
